Glastonbury Redux - Adam and Joe style

Glastonbury used to be a high spot in the Adam and Joe calender but they haven't broadcast from there since 2011. Happily, there are carefully curated archives, dotted around the net. Of course, Adam & Joe presented some telly stuff in the early noughties but we don't want to go back that far, do we?

The Shows:

The first Adam & Joe BBC 6 Music Glasto broadcast was supposed to be in 2008 but Joe went all sicky. Luckily, Garth was more than happy to hitch a ride with Adam and they made a lovely show, with Adam going the customary extra mile to include some special content.

2009 was Adam and Joe's golden year at 6 Music. The station could hardly believe the sensation they'd unleashed. At Glastonbury, they gave them two evening shows (Sunset Shows) and two morning shows AND a couple of Glasto Gold pre-recorded introductions in the small hours.

Despite having left the station at the end of 2009, they returned to Glasto for three afternoon shows in 2010 and I've included the handover they did with Jarvis on the Sunday.

The 2011 Glasto shows marked the end of their brief return to the station, which began in April as Joe's first feature was being released.

I've put a playlist here of the edited shows (not the podcasts) in chronological order. The music (sadly), news and trails have been removed to better appease the copywright peeps.

In 2009 we had a wonky webcam giving us occasional still shots but in 2010 and 2011 they had moving images, much to the angst of our squadron leaders.

Some more 2010 snips can be found here, here and here.

Oh, all right then - here's a golden oldie

Adam Drops Some Serious Info Bombs on Tom Dunne

I've been quiety sitting on this interview for a couple of weeks now.  Adam talked to Tom Dunne in Dublin town via the telephone last week (it's a new thing that looks like an electrical bone. It's amazing and it's the future*). It was in advance of his show at the Vodaphone Comedy Festival, which is happening tonight in a sold-out kind of way.

Adam revealed so many bits of information, both personal and careerical that I expected the interwebs to go nutzoid.

I don't know if you've noticed, but as I approach my sixth decade, I have pulled my socks up, sobered up and generally tried to calm down about things that my two favourite idiotholes do. I thought I'd sit back and let the rest of the web go bonkers so that I could gently retweet the reverie of others. I retweeted the link on the day but ..................

........WHERE ARE YOU, BLACK SQUADRON?  I have enough search thingumies in place still, to know that no such reverie was forthcoming.  I have to assume that this elite sleeper cell has completely dozed off, never more to be distrubed. WHERE ARE YOUR TOAST BRACELETS?

Perhaps some eggs have gone in ears instead of mouths and they're just not able to hear podcasts. Maybe the demise of the Adam and Joe Podcast has put them off ever listening to neatly compacted chitty-chat ever again but you'll have to trust me on this. Start listening to podcasts again and make this your first choice. It's gentle. It's less than a quarter of an hour long and it is packed with stuff.

I have not been able to see a download button on the site so I have cheekily and without malicious intent, sucked the thing out of the machine and put it somewhere for posterity, however you can listen on the NewsTalk FM website here.

Probably a bit late with this but lookie here.

Countdown to Christmas with Adam and Joe Nostalgia: Jesus Day

This was the last show they did together so I've saved until the day of days. Stop plucking that bird and listen till your ears dribble. The catch in Adam's voice still wobbles me.

Countdown to Christmas with Adam and Joe Nostalgia Day Six

If I'm honest, I started posting these shows a little prematurely. There weren't eight proper Christmas shows, so here's a full show (including music etc) aired on 31st Dec 2011 giving the best bits of their brief return earlier that year.

Countdown to Christmas with Adam and Joe Nostalgia Day Five

2008 was an exciting year for The Adam and Joe Radio Show featuring Joe with his shivery tingles and the amazing Video Wars. Garth Jennings covered for Joe's malingering and Video Wars was won by the delightful Chris Salt. At the end of the year (only not really because this is a pre-record) both Garth and Chris came back into the studio for the betweenies show. It also included Craig, the lovely Amber Gambler. It's a joyous show.

Countdown to Christmas with Adam and Joe Nostalgia Day Four

With their feet well and truly under the table and podcasts on the go, the silliness goes festive once again.

Countdown to Christmas with Adam and Joe Nostalgia Day Three

Adam and Joe came to 6Music with a most violent baptism of fire to cover for Shaun W Keaveny's holiday, and being required to turn up by 6:59 am every weekday for two weeks - INCLUDING a Bank Holiday. Those awful bankers. In a masertpiece of not-cocking-upedness, they secured a regular slot which started in October 2007 meaning they had to find a shack without the Castle ramparts to broadcast their festive show.

Countdown to Christmas with Adam and Joe Nostalgia Day Two

It's a ruddy shame that only two of the three XFM Christmas shows have been dribbled onto the internet but let's enjoy the second one is all it's low bitrate glory (despite it being post-Christmas really) for tomorrow we have 6Music.

Countdown to Christmas with Adam and Joe Nostalgia

This time next week the turkey (or non-meat equivalent) will be well and truly stuffed (or coaxed out of a loaf tin) and we'll all be setting in for a couple of days resting in a vegitative state, only animating ourselves to eat and poo.

Let's have a listen to some classic Adam and Joe festive nonsense.

Adam and Joe question on Celebrity Eggheads #AdamAndJoe

At last, both teams seem to have heard of our secret heros and one of the Eggheads even knows a little bit about Joe's current status.

Thank you BBC iPlayer 31st December 2013.

.........and a very happy 2014 to you.

Cryptozoology #JoeCornish

Joe Cornish has always been an endearing idiot when it comes to cryptozoology.

He wrote a song about it and waffled it.

Adam & Joe retain their 'secret' status in new comedyquiz #AdamBuxton #JoeCornish

Last night saw the first outing for Channel 4's new comedy quiz Comedy World Cup.
Now, a precedent has been set for Adam and Joe references in these tea-time quiz shows (see way below) and thankfully, their run of enduring forgettableness remains uninterupted thanks to a cashier at lunch in Jason Manford's memory bank.

Of course, this instance has the stench of double amusement when we realise than in a few hours' time, we'll be watching the product of Mr Manford's recent meeting with Mr Buxton in Big Fat Quiz of the 80's. Thank goodness that was recorded last week.

To take it one meta-step further, Joe Cornish was of course, a co-writer on the referenced version of Tintin, not featuring "Matt Lucas and um" as the twins.

Joe's Still Sticking At It #TheChase #JoeCornish

Happily, our closely guarded secret still seems to be intact but we'll probably need to be a little more vigilant over the next few months, what with BUG TV airing and Ant-man probably going into production.
Ann's contestant was clueless, Woggles' watchers were witless and last week, Bradley's bunch were boobies. They're ours for a while longer. The tea-time telly watchers many not have them.

In The Chase (still available till the end of the month) neither the contestants nor the erm, 'Chaser' could identify Joe as the BBC 6Music DJ who directed Attack the Block. Hurrah! Idiotholes Rule!

Stick at it, Joe #AdamAndJoe

This should have gone with yesterday's post, probably.
Every so often, the lore of the idiotholes leaks into mainstream broadcasting and is treated with the mystical protection that it deserves.
There's no point in having the most glorious secret in the world if you don't put measures in place to preserve it.

Who ARE these Buxton and Cornish comedians?

This poor contestant took a bit of flack on Twitter for his idiotholinessity but give the guy a break.
Adam and Joe are and will always remain our special secret. I shall endeavour to explain my theory a little more in tomorrow's post.
